Hanoi — As Vietnam approaches the 80th anniversary of its National Day on September 2, the streets of Hanoi are adorned with red flags and yellow stars.

For weeks, rehearsals for the grand military parade have been taking place in the city center, with both police and army units participating. Meanwhile, a large-scale commemorative concert was held at the National Stadium.

These sights have fueled a growing sense of patriotism among citizens day by day.

August 24 was no exception. One week before the official celebrations, the Ba Dinh Square area—where the parade will be staged—was already crowded with residents dressed in ao dai, Vietnam’s traditional attire, taking photos early Sunday morning before 6 a.m.

This was not limited to the Instagram generation. Groups of women in their fifties could also be seen in matching ao dai, capturing the moment together—an increasingly familiar scene in the capital.

Later that morning, around 8 a.m., an air force rehearsal took place, with helicopters and fighter jets soaring above Ba Dinh Square and Hoan Kiem Lake.

The powerful display ignited even more excitement among the gathered citizens.
